The Power and Practical Application of Prayer

By: | Tags: | Comments: 1

The recent mass shootings, especially in the U.S., has caused people to question the power and effectiveness of prayer. Some has suggested that, if prayer worked, the Pope would play a more significant role in addressing mass shootings worldwide. I think this is a fair and pertinent question. The following is my response.

You can overcome any challenge

Thirty-one years ago the Space Shuttle Challenger ended in disaster. I was 17 years old, and a student at Health Careers High School. This shuttle launch was special to me because it was the first time NASA was going to send a civilian teacher into space. While Christa McAuliffe was selected, many teachers applied for the adventure. One of those teachers taught at my high school. Out of thousands of applicants, our teacher made it to the final group. He was so close that he had been assigned one of […]

Your Darinism…Are you ready?

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

Are you ready? I’m not talking about for Thanksgiving. I’m not talking about for Black Friday. And, no, I’m not talking about for Christmas or New Year’s. Are you ready for the rest of your life? Don’t know? Then the answer is, no. When I ask my clients this question sometimes they respond with, “That depends on what the rest of my life looks like.” That tells me where to start coaching. You can do more than just wait to see what happens. You can be the cause of what […]

Your Darinism…Getting chopped…

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

My wife and I enjoy watching the show “Chopped”  on the food network. In case you haven’t seen it, it is a show that features for competing chefs. The chefs are given a mystery basket, which contain items of food from which they are to create a great meal for the judges. The chefs  compete in three rounds-appetizer, entrée, and a dessert round. At the end of each round the judges choose the worst dish, and the chef who made that dish gets eliminated – chopped. Has life treated you […]

Know your own significance

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

Have you ever asked yourself, “Do I matter?” or “What difference does it make that I am here?” The universe is so big, and the world seems so crazy, that it’s easy to question your own significance. But, be careful with that line of questioning. To question your own significance is to, on some level, deny your significance. The truth? You are significant, and you do matter. Furthermore, because you do matter, what you do matters and has a significant impact. The impact you make occurs even when you can’t […]

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”    Notice how the focus is on productivity and prosperity. So let’s make the first step of discovering your purpose a simple step. This week, I invite you to stop thinking about the question, “What is my purpose?” The reason is because, every time you ask that question you reinforce the belief that you don’t know your purpose. This thought can […]

Fighting Roaches

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

My father would always say, “a roach is a roach, and will always be a roach.” What he meant by this was that, while we all have the ability to change, some people choose never to change. There are some people who, no matter what, will always choose to be negative and hateful. Like a roach, there are those who will always come out at night behind your back. Here’s the rub, the person who gets mad at a roach for being a roach, is the one who looks out […]
